URGENT ANNOUNCEMENT FOR ALL PARENTS & GUARDIANS - Monday 11 October

Goroka Grammar School has today received notification, that as a result of the dire Covid-19 & Delta Variant situation in Eastern Highlands Province, all schools are to continue with classes for grades 8, 10 and 12 only from Monday 11 October. As we only received the notice today, all children in grades 3, 4, 5 & 6 will not attend classes from Tuesday 12 October onwards and we will only continue with the high school grades that have National Examinations.

Goroka Grammar School will, however continue to provide learning materials for all grades, that will be distributed at the Primary Campus every Monday morning from 9am.

As a result of the dire situation in Goroka, we anticipate that all schools will be instructed to close after the Grade 8 National Examinations on Thursday 28 October.

In the meantime, all non-vaccinated resident staff have been asked to vacate the premises until such time as the crisis is over.

Boarding students remaining at the school, who are aged 18+ will also be asked to vaccinate.

While we are under threat from the virus, we will not continue with grade 11 preparatory classes this year, instead grade 10 students will be released immediately after the National Exams and will not return until 2022. The same will apply to grade 8 students who will also return home after the National Exams.

Goroka Grammar School supports the National and Provincial Governments’ stand, that the way out of this crisis is through a mass vaccination programme.

Keep physically distanced, wear a mask and get vaccinated to protect yourselves and the community.

Director of Education
