Hello everyone
As usual there is a great deal happening at Goroka Grammar School that we need to update parents and guardians about. This week, grade 8, 10 & 12 students have been sitting for their respective mock examinations. The results of these mock exams will help grade 12 students to make their choices of tertiary institutions for next year. They will also help grade 10 students to select the most appropriate courses for themselves for grade 11 next year.
In view of the ongoing issue of Covid-19 in the country, Goroka Grammar School has decided to cancel the grade 12 banquet for this year. We will go ahead with the grade 12 graduation, but it will become a ‘mini’ graduation in order to comply with Covid-19 safety measures. All grade 12 students will only be allowed two guests and there will be no musical performances so that we can accommodate all invited guests in a socially distanced manner. In addition, only one guest speaker will be invited and one parent will also be asked to present a short address to the students. All parents who attend will also be required to wear face masks and to have their hands sanitised on entry to the school premises. The graduation will be held on Friday 30 October at 3pm, immediately after the grade 12 examinations.
It is not planned to hold any other graduations this year, so the ELC and Junior School graduations will be deferred until a later date.
TERM BREAK
Goroka Grammar School will close on Thursday next week, 10 September, for the term 3 holiday, and will reopen for term 4 on Monday 21 September.
Term 4 will end on Thursday 3 December after 11 weeks of schooling. By increasing the term time to 11 weeks for each term since the lockdown, and by shortening all term breaks to one week, we have managed to make up for all the time the school was closed for face to face classes as a result of the lockdown. This is in addition to supplying online learning materials throughout the duration of the national closure of schools.
Examination Dates
Grade 10 examinations: Monday 19 October to Friday 23 October.
Grade 12 examinations: Monday 26 October to Friday 30 October.
Grade 8 examinations: Monday 2 November to Friday 6 November.
Parents and students are reminded that grade 10 students who wish to study Advanced Mathematics and Science in year 11 must attend our Preparatory Course, which will commence a week after the grade 10 examinations on Monday 2 November.
