Hello to all Parents and Guardians
Today Goroka Grammar School has completed the first two weeks of classes for grades 8, 10 & 12 after the enforced closure of all schools in PNG as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. As the reopening has been successful so far, with all students and staff being provided with face masks, having daily temperature checks and having access to hand sanitizer, we will now move to phase 2 of the reopening.
This second phase of the reopening involves the grade 7, 9 and 11 students returning to school. The grade 9 & 11 will attend at the Primary Campus in town and grade 7 & 8 will have their classes at the Secondary Campus at Faniufa. The School will provide a bus service from the Primary Campus to the Secondary Campus.
During the second phase of reopening all students and staff will continue to wear face masks and be subjected to daily temperature checks. Classes for grades 7 & 8 will commence at 8.30am and finish at 1.30pm and students who have paid the bus fee will be transported back to the Primary Campus.
The 3rd phase of our reopening is scheduled for June 2 when the current State of Emergency expires. It is still our intention to reopen for all Primary grades on that date, but it must be no ne stressed that this will only be possible if there are no new cases of Covid-19 in the country.
I would also like to hear parents’ views on re-opening for primary students on June 2nd. In particular I would like to know if parents would like their children to resume as soon as possible or would you prefer them to learn online?
Finally, please keep checking our website for the latest updates on what is happening at the school.
Stay safe
