At the time of making this announcement we have still not received any official notification from the National Department of Education or the Provincial Education office regarding the reopening of schools. Goroka Grammar School has therefore made a decision to reopen on a gradual basis. The situation is further complicated by the announcement from the PNG Teachers Association has advised that teachers should not resume classes on Monday 19 April.
Futhermore, as there has been a surge in Covid-19 cases nationally and locally it has been decided to reopen cautiously as we await guidance from the National Government.
The proposed reopening schedule is as follows:
Monday 19 April Learning materials to be issued at 9am from the Primary Campus.
Formal classes will not commence.
All teachers to resume duties.
Wednesday 21 April Formal classes will commence at 8am for grades 8, 10 & 12 only.
Monday 26 April Formal classes for all other grades will resume.
The above schedule is subject to change if the National Government announces that the closure of schools will continue.
All parents and sponsors should ensure that school fees are paid for term 2 before children return to class.
