We are now into week 8 of term 2 with just 2 more weeks before we close the school for our second term break. School will close on Thursday 22 June for the two-week term break for students. During the first week, 26 to 30 June, teachers will have their Professional Development meeting when they will discuss a variety of issues including the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education.
The Secondary Campus will also host a special assembly on Friday 16 June when Bill Sykes, a visitor from Australia, will present the Leigh Grant Vial scholarships for 2023/2024. We are presently finalising selections for the scholarships in consultation with Brian Vial and we should be able to announce the awardees by Friday 9 June.
The school five-a-side football competition continues every Saturday at the school secondary campus from 9am to 12pm with teams of all ages taking part and it is intended to continue into term 3 before we present awards at the end of the season. Our last round of games for this term will be Saturday 17 June.
Another feature of school life for this term is the Tuesday matinee musical recitals hosted by Mr. Kafare. These recitals give the students an opportunity to showcase their musical ability.
Grade 10 students sat for their National Written Expression Examination last week and next term it will be the turn of the grade 12 students to sit for their Written Expression exam.
I should also mention in these announcements that Goroka Grammar School does not allow boys to come to school with beards and they are now being sent home if they do not come to school clean shaven. In addition, day students should not bring their mobile phones to school as there is a risk of theft and phones used in the wrong place at the wrong time will be confiscated.
Term 3 begins on Monday July 10 and we will then be making final preparations for the National Examinations objective papers.
