A former student of Goroka Grammar School, Leonie Beu, has been awarded an Athletics Scholarship at Cloud County Community College in Kansas USA. Leonie attended Goroka Grammar School for her year 11 and 12 education in 2018 and 2019. Leonie was a multiple medal winner, including one gold, at the Pacific Games in 2019. Leonie had to take time off from her studies to attend the Games and become a gold medal winner. Despite taking time off from school, Leonie ended up as a gold medal winner in the Pacific Games and did well enough in her grade 12 examinations to be selected to Cloud Community College.
Goroka Grammar School congratulates Leonie on her fantastic achievement and we wish her ‘all the best’ in her studies and athletics career in the USA.
Director of Education, Paddy Kelly said that Leonie is one of the most determined young people he had ever met and he was confident that she would be a great success in the USA, as long as she remained focused, determined and hard working.
