Hello Parents & Guardians
I hope you are all keeping safe and well.
Yesterday, 24 November, I received a circular from the Provincial Director of Education that stated all schools are to reopen on 15 November. Obviously, that is not possible as it was 10 days ago. We will however, open the Primary Campus for all grades on Monday 29 November and the school will remain open for the final two weeks of the school year.
For any parents who do not wish to send their children to school for ‘face to face’ learning, we will continue to provide learning materials for the remaining two weeks.
School will officially close for students on Thursday 9 December and we will hopefully resume classes on Monday 31 January for our Secondary School students in 2022. The Primary grades, 2 – 6, will resume on Tuesday 1 February and ELC will commence on Wednesday 2 February.
This has been a difficult and challenging year for us all and I would like to thank all parents and and guardians for your support throughout the year, even though we have had to close the school on 3 different occasions as a consequence of surges in Covid-19/Delta variant cases.
I know that this will place us in a minority of the population, but Goroka Grammar School supports the Government vaccination programme as the primary solution to controlling the spread of the virus. Unfortunately, only 4% of the population have been vaccinated and so we will have to continue to live with it for a long time to come.
All teachers who are present at both our campuses have been vaccinated and new recruits for next year will be required to be vaccinated before commencing teaching. In this way we are taking steps to protect the health and well-being of all members of the school community.
Finally, I wish you all a safe, healthy & peaceful Christmas and look forward to seeing you again next year.
Merry Christmas
Paddy Kelly
Director of Education
