Hello Parents & Guardians
I hope you are all keeping safe and well.
This announcement is to remind all parents and guardians that we are issuing learning materials for all grades that are not attending for physical classes, every Monday morning at 9am from the Primary Campus.
It is important that parents understand that if the children do not complete the school year this year, they will not be eligible to progress to the next grade in 2022.
The Primary School children are completing their learning materials for this term and I am not so concerned about them, as they will progress to the next grade, next year. However, if they are withdrawn from school for the whole of term 4 and do not complete the learning materials that are being issued, they will not be eligible to go to the next grade.
My greater concern is with the grade 7, 9 & 11 students who are presently excluded from classes. Teachers are preparing learning materials for these students and if they do not do the work, they may not be eligible to progress to the next grade in 2022. In particular grade 11 students must complete the work as it contributes to their overall grade at the end of year 12. If you have any concerns about this issue, please contact me by email: director@gorokagrammarschool.org
The grade 10 students all completed their exams yesterday, 15 October, and will now stay at home until we are advised that it is safe to resume classes again. It is really pleasing that every grade 10 student attended punctually for the exams and that they all completed every exam. Marking of their papers begins next week and we will then wait for the results.
On Monday of next week, the grade 12s begin their exams and we have their schedule that is shown below, but we do not have exact starting and finishing times:
Monday 8:30AM - 11:00AM Advanced Maths 1, General Maths 1
12:00PM - 2:30PM Applied Science, History
Tuesday 8:30AM - 11:00AM Physics, Accounting
12:00PM - 2:30PM Geography
Wednesday 8:30AM - 11:00AM Biology, Economics
12:00PM - 2:30PM Geology, Business Studies
Thursday 8:30AM - 11:00AM Language & Literature
12:00PM - 2:30PM Chemistry, Legal Studies
Friday 8:30AM - 11:00AM Information Communication Technology (ICT)
12:00PM - 2:30PM Advanced Maths 2, General Maths 2
We will have a bus service to drop the students off after the exams.
All grade 12 parents are reminded that there will be no graduation this year on instruction from the Provincial Education Advisor, due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Students will be dropped off after the final exam on Friday afternoon and parents will have to hold their own small events to mark this significant day in the life of the students. If any parents/guardians come to the school to pick their children up, you will be asked to wait in the car park.
Grade 8 exams will be held the following week from 25 to 28 October. After that it is unclear if schools in EHP will remain open or will be told to close. Parents and guardians are encouraged to check our website for news of the latest developments.
Stay safe & healthy
Paddy Kelly
Director of Education
