URGENT ANNOUNCEMENT - 1 November 2021

Hello Parents & Guardians

I hope you are all keeping safe and well.

This announcement is to remind all parents and guardians that the Provincial Pandemic Controller has extended the partial lockdown by a further two weeks commencing on Monday 1 November. The measures will remain in place for another 2 weeks and will include a continuation of the curfew from 2pm to 6am daily.

In line with this Provincial directive, the EHP Director of Education has issued an instruction that all Primary Schools are to close and remain closed until the 2022 school year. Secondary Schools are to remain open, but in a way that protects the health and safety of their communities. Classes are not to resume for Secondary grades but we are instructed to find alternative means of completing assessment.

At Goroka Grammar School this means that our Primary Campus is now effectively closed, but we will continue to provide learning materials for all grades until the end of the school year. At the Secondary Campus the biggest concern is for grade 11 students who will sit for National Examinations next year. As they will be competing with students from all over the country, we will have to find a way for them to complete their grade 11 studies.

As the majority of grade 11 students have not been submitting their learning materials for marking, we will bring them to school on Wednesday 3 November at 8.30am for Humanities students and Thursday 4 November for Science students. They will be dropped off at 12.30pm after the classes. On these two days they will be given an opportunity to meet with their teachers so that we can ensure they complete the school year. During the following two weeks they will return to school on the same days to complete their assessment for the year. That will bring us to week 8 and it is likely that the Secondary Campus will close at the end of that week on Friday 19 November.

Grade 7 & 9 students from the Secondary Campus should continue to collect their learning materials from the Primary Campus every Monday and submit their work to the teachers the following Monday for correction and marking. The same applies to all the Primary grade students. Grade 8, 10 & 12 students have completed their National Exams and their studies for this year.

If any parents have concerns about this course of action please contact me at:

Stay safe & Healthy

Paddy Kelly

Director of Education
